Criminal
Records Bureau Umbrella Body First
Stop Darlington is an umbrella body of the Criminal Records Bureau and as
such can do disclosure checks for other organisations. The
current legislation does not allow the self-employed or individuals to apply
for a CRB check on themselves. In addition, parents who employ a nanny/au
pair/babysitter directly cannot apply for a CRB check; however, if an agency
supplies the nanny/au pair/babysitter, the agency is entitled to carry out a
CRB check. If
you are going to have paid employees or volunteers at your organisation and
their work will bring them into contact with children or vulnerable adults,
you will need to arrange for a CRB check for each individual member of your
team. You
can do this through First Stop Darlington, we will supply your organisation
with the forms for each individual that needs a CRB check and also advice
and support on the process. Once
the completed CRB checks are returned we will advice you on the results,
should the CRB check not be satisfactory we will advice you of your
responsibilities and any further actions required. For
further information and costings for this services please contact Alison
Charlton or Tracy Freeman on 01325
254463 If
any of your team are worried or concerned about what may be, or has been,
revealed by their CRB check they can talk in confidence to the Nacro
helpline. Nacro is a crime reduction charity that works with ex-offenders
and is able to answer specific queries on good practice in relation to
employment and offenders. (Tel: 020 7840 6464 or Email helpline@nacro.org.uk).
